What are satellite converters?

Satellite converters are devices used to shift and amplify signals from the 10.7 - 11.7 and 11.7 - 12.75 GHz bands into the range of the first intermediate satellite frequency (950 - 2150 MHz).

What are the types of satellite converters?

There are different types of satellite converters, as in the case of other components that complete the satellite TV set.

Individual converters differ in generator frequency, input bandwidth, output bandwidth and the way they select the received polarization. Below are the most common satellite converters used today:

Full-band (fullband) converter - the device most commonly used today, which allows to receive programs broadcast with horizontal and vertical polarization (selection is made by applying 18V or 14V supply voltage), as well as in the 10.7- 11.7 and 11.7- 12.75GHz range (selection is made by sending or not sending a signal with a frequency of 22kHz and amplitude of 0.6V). The frequency of the converter generator is then 9.75GHz for the 10.7- 11.7 range and 10.6GHz for the 11.7- 12.75GHz range. Sometimes variants with a frequency of 10.7GHz are also encountered.

Twin (double) converter - it is actually two independent converters in one housing, allowing to receive two different satellite programs on two receivers. All devices are made in fullband variant

Quad converter - this is actually a quatro converter with a special built-in 4/4 multiswitch. Such a converter allows you to attach up to four tuners, which work fully independently.

Dual converter - this is a converter that has a vertically polarized signal output and a horizontally polarized signal output (usually in the 10.7- 11.7GHz range). Both signals are available continuously and - unlike a full-range converter or a twine - are not switched in any way. Currently, these converters are poorly available - quatro converters have effectively replaced them.

Quatro converters - this is a converter with four independent outputs: 10.7 - 11.7GHz range with vertical polarization, 10.7 - 11.7GHz range with horizontal polarization, 11.7 - 12.7GHz range with vertical polarization and 11.7 - 12.75GHz range with horizontal polarization.

Monoblock converter - these are two converters with DiSEqC switch made on one PCB and enclosed in one common housing. The selection of the converter is made after the Tone Burst or DiSEqC signal is given, and they are designed to work with antennas with a diameter of 80 - 90 cm.
